Oh So Yummy Yogurt

Since beginning my weight loss journey, I’ve had to change a few things as you can imagine.  I didn’t want to believe my boss (who is the picture of health) that in order to lose and maintain weight, I’d have to keep a steadfast flow of good choices 85% of the time.  Eighty-five percent, really?  Turns out it was true.  Crap.

For breakfast, one of the best changes I made in my eating was getting away from boring and not-so-nutritious box cereals, in favor of new and exciting things I’d never considered before.  Growing up I was lactose intolerant and therefore stayed far away from yogurt.  Plus, I really did not care for the taste of it.  But when my friend and exercise instructor, Candice, introduced my taste buds to the yummy that is Chobani Greek Yogurt, I was hooked!  I tried Fage and I hated it – too sour for me.  Even now, I’m tempted to try Oikos Greek Yogurt, but that’s really more about John Stamos.  If I wasn’t already eating Greek Yogurt, I think John could convince me to try it!

This is a breakfast favorite of mine, passed onto me by Candice

4 oz Chobani Non-Fat Vanilla, Strawberry or Plain = 2 WW Points Plus

Fresh or frozen berries = 0 WW Points Plus

1 TBSP of ground flaxseed = 1 WW Points Plus

2 TBSP of Cascadian Farms Organic Oats n’ Honey Granola = 1 WW Points Plus

For my Weight Watchers friends, this breakfast is only 4 points and it satisfies so many of our daily good health guidelines: non-fat dairy, fruit, whole grain oats, and healthy oil.

As the seasons change you can change the fruit accordingly.  I have also done this with the other Chobani flavors such as raspberry, black cherry and lemon in the 6 oz individual sizes.  Keep in mind, at 6 oz you will adjust the WW points values and in many cases, if it’s a non-fat flavor it will be 4 WW points plus for those 6 oz.  Even then, it’s a 6 point breakfast and that’s definitely still doable.

This is just one of my “go-to” breakfast solutions that give me balance, nutrition and a boost – especially after exercise!  What breakfast foods are you eating right now that you know could be changed or improved?  What healthy breakfast choices are your favorites?

  1. This is really yummy. I’ve always been a bacon kind of guys, but this breakfast is very tasty and as good for men as women.

I have always been a huge fan of yogurt and became a Greek yogurt addict when I went to Greece in ’95. For me the fat free ones are hard, though I eat them, because they really lack the smooth creaminess that IS Greek yogurt. However, the Oikos is really delicious and probably one of the better ones I’ve tried that’s low fat or fat free, so give it a try! :)
